About Caselinks :: |
The Caselinks aims to lay a foundation for
a National Digital Library of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) modules
that focus on significant problems of professional practice with
children who display important individual differences in language
and learning. Interactive Multi-media technology (IMM) is being used
to faciliate these modules.

| :: CaseLink :: |
| Caselink, the founding project, responded to the
need to address the distinction between craft knowledge that develops
from practical experience and academic knowledge acquired through formal
study. CaseLink illustrated that it is by incorporating all types of
professional knowledge and then applying this knowledge that we can
improve the outcomes for students with disabilities. The Caselink project
produced and field-tested three IMM-PBL modules that are currently
being implemented in Special Education courses. These modules were
the impetus for the subsequent work described below. |
|
:: CaseTrainer :: |
CaseTrainer, the most recently funded project,
utilizes the modules to integrate an expanding knowledge base into
the BCLAD teacher training program at UCSB. CASETrainer integrates
theories of problem-based learning, "communities of practice" and
embodied knowledge with innovative technological applications to
create a unique
approach to professional development which will improve both the
quality and nature, and the access to preservice curriculua models.

| :: SchoolLink :: |
| SchoolLink used the CaseLink design to address
the problem of matching appropriate instruction to the educational
needs of students from ethnolinguistic minorities. The expanded SchoolLink
model involved teams of teachers, principals and parents in partner
schools in the desgin of two further IMM-PBL modules. Teams of eductors
involved in this project were supported as they helped to develop modules
that linked teachers and parents from the participating schools to
researchers and instructors at UCSB. |
